Bangladesh to host OIC foreign ministers’ meeting in 2018

'A draft resolution regarding the venue was unanimously adopted'

Bangladesh is set to host the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) foreign ministers’ meeting in 2018.
The decision on Dhaka as the host city for the 2018 programme was made at a preparatory meeting of the senior officials concerned held from April 30 to May 2 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque led the Bangladeshi delegation at the meeting, said a press release from the foreign ministry.
A draft resolution regarding the venue was unanimously adopted, welcoming the bid from Bangladesh for hosting the meeting during the second half of 2018.
The meeting discussed many important issues for betterment of the OIC member states, with the key concern in Bangladesh being judged to be the Rohingya refugee crisis.
OIC called for early implementation of the recommendations from the Kofi Annan-led Advisory Commission on Northern Rakhine State and restoration of the Citizenship Act of Myanmar, in order to provide opportunity to Muslim minorities in the country and ensure sustainable repatriation of Rohingyas from Bangladesh to the Northern Rakhine State.
Also, the foreign secretary invited OIC Secretary General Dr Yousef A Al-Othaimeen to visit Bangladesh, which he accepted.
